These puppies were born yesterday.  They are sleeping on a heating pad, while mom Gussie sees to their needs.  All is quiet at the moment.

The puppies are all doing well, eating and sleeping a lot.  Their eyes opened last weekend, and since they can see, they reach their mother more quickly.  What they were doing at a crawl is turning into a creep, and they will begin walking this week.  The puppy with the red ribbon is joining up with the rest to get some milk from mom.  It's fun to see them developing day by day.

We took the pups outside today for the first time.  They got to experience grass, sun, shade, and water.  They are moving very well and beginning to play with each other.  They loved being outside, but later, when they came back to the whelping box, they all took very good naps.  As you can see, they are fearless, curious, and happily wagging their tails.  Personalities are going to start popping up now and we already see some of their early qualities.

At 6 weeks every pup has learned to climb out of the whelping box.  They spend most of the time on the back lanai, napping next to the ping pong table, playing and eating a lot.  Since the cement steps are still daunting, they have figured out that to get to the flat play area below, they need to go around the avocado tree, which shows off their problem-solving skills.  They are eating well and learning how to take food nicely from human fingers (most of the time).

At 5 weeks every pup has been content to stay in the whelping box, but have begun whining to get out.  So far, they just wait for one of us to pick them up.  When they are in the side yard, they play, investigate, and take nice naps.  it is ideal-- shady, breezy, birds singing and chirping, peaceful.  Add to this a full belly, and you can see why the nap is so appealing.

The pups at 8 weeks

At 8 weeks the puppies are ready for their new homes.  They have learned the essentials from mom and dad, and have gotten every drop of mom's milk they want.  Foods are great and exciting, treats are welcome, and training is underway.  Napping and growing seem to be olympic events in their lives, with every puppy growing visibly over each week.  They are now around 15-18 pounds, with thick legs, wagging tails and puppy bellies waiting for scratches.  They will very soon be out of the 12" collars they will go home with.  They weathered the 4th of July with zero drama from fireworks. Pink's ears are almost up.

At 8 weeks Yellow is the only pup left unsold.  She enjoyed a solo dinner last night, the extra attention from us, and the luxury of choosing her napping spot.  We plan on keeping up her puppy training, introducing the leash.  She is so cute, so loving, and so funny to boot.  I cannot keep track of the toilet bowl brush holders, not the brushes, but the holders!  One look at her face, and all is forgiven.

This puppy went to her new home on Tuesday, one day after the others left with their new owners. Brad McGrath and his wife got this sweet little miss to take home tonight.  May they all have a lively, loving, and exciting adventure in the next decade and beyond.

We received an update from Jack and Carla.  They are in Alaska, and Moana is enjoying life there -- having seen moose and bear!

Moana was "Pink" from the "E" litter before her name was changed.
